Description: The Year of the Snake/ Nuda Veritas

This piece is a subtle nod to Klimt’s 1889 ‘Nuda Veritas’ or ‘the Naked Truth’ In the original painting an inscription is included which is an excerpt from the German poet Schiller and the translation reads ‘If you cannot please everyone with your actions and your art, you should satisfy a few. To please many is dangerous.’ I have mimicked the mirror held by a figure and the snake in Klimt’s piece, alluding to his invitation to self-examination. The central figure is my piece is turned away, suggesting shame or self-criticism.
