This is a small painting of a figure from the back. She is lit by sun. I realized during this series that I love to paint strong cast light. These little figure studies are feel energetic and loose to me, allowing me to play with paint in a more fluid way than the larger pieces. 

The figure is always central to my work. I combine precise forms with expressive mark-making to mirror the tension between clarity and uncertainty that defines this season of life.
