This flowing, sumptuous painting glorifies the female form and reveres the shifting states of being a woman may experience through her life. A smiling figure reclines and gazes out at the viewer, one arm holding or caressing herself, the other extended, palm open. Other figures flow around her in a dream-like underwater environment. 

About the process: I was thinking of pearls and the oysters that transform foreign bodies into precious stones. Originally I was inspired by shimmering, glowing skin and women’s bodies, like the central figure. I am infinitely drawn to swimming, flowing, water, the mystery of the ocean, reaching, searching, floating, and the feeling of being held and caressed and surrounded by water. I looked at the figures and movement of Klimt’s ‘Flowing Water’ 1898 a lot while making this piece. I had thought the central figure was going to be alone in the composition but then many asked to join her, and she is accompanied by many figures, all joining her.
