Description:

A luscious figure painting with pattern, innuendo and discomfort. A group of women gaze directly out at the viewer.

This is a direct reference to  the Klimt piece ‘Judith with the Head of Holfernes’, 1901. In the biblical (deuterocanonical Book of Judith) Judith seduces and decapitates General Holofernes before he destroys her home city. In my painting the Judiths stare down the viewer with challenging gazes. In it I envision a sisterhood of women dismantling patriarchal constructs of the aging woman becoming invisible and worthless, and instead assembling to create a middle age army advocating for women’s health, agency and value. A simmering rage, which will hopefully lead us to making the changes we need. And yet, that head is handsome though.
